潛行式動作遊戲在世界不算主流，雖然今時今日不少遊戲都會加入潛行成份（像之前大受歡迎的《Uncharted 2 Among Thieves》和《Batman Arkham Asylum》），可是鮮有真正以潛行作為主軸的遊戲。若要細數的話，日本方面有《Metal Gear Solid》系列、《天誅》系列，而美國則不得不提Tom Clancy的《Splinter Cell》系列。

《天》以古裝忍者活劇的形式展現一個立體而神秘的世界，可惜公式單調而欠缺變化，因此來到這個世代變得越來越弱。《Metal》則以橫跨近百年的龐大世界觀作背景，虛構劇情和歷史事件之間穿插，引人入勝之餘又可堪玩味，加上製作人小島秀夫獨有的幽默感，系列成為國際知名的高水準頂級遊戲。至於《Splinter》，因為有Tom Clancy這個軍事專家的關係，劇情緊湊而且帶有強烈的實感，題材亦相當廣泛。

或者吸收了《天》的教訓，製作人都明白到變通的重要性，尤其踏入這個世代之後，開發遊戲的成本大增，不得不擴大遊戲市場以賺取更多利潤。因此，製作人除了要取悅核心機迷，亦要照顧一般的玩家，相對之下變得越來越容易，官能刺激的追求亦踏入前所未有的高峰。因此我們可以看到，潛行式動作遊戲將會越來越淡化，由主軸變成一種元素，或一種選擇。像前年推出的《Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots》，除了部份關卡強制需要潛行之外，大部份時間都容許玩家衝鋒陷陣，將敵人殺個片甲不留。當然玩家仍然可以挑戰零警報的本格玩法，只是讓非核心或者技藝未精的玩家多一種潛行之外的選擇。這不過是一個現象，絕不是一種倒退，更不是一種缺點。

同樣地，以高難度見稱的《Splinter》系列來到今集《Conviction》亦順利轉型，成了一款爽快度十足的動作遊戲。劇情雖然緊接上集《Double Agent》，不過第一次接觸這個系列的玩家完全不用擔心，《Conviction》有足夠的篇幅讓玩家知道大概劇情的來龍去脈，而且本身的故事不算複雜，主要還離不開失去女兒的父親向出賣自己的組織報復，然後揭開一個個謎團。以插敘的形式不算突出，但也製造到丁點懸念。不過在簡單而精彩的動作場面之下，不用怎樣了解劇情也能投入遊戲。

《Conviction》的畫面並不是最頂尖，場景不算豐富，人物模組亦不算細緻，比不上同廠之前的《Assassin’s Creed 2》。但製作人聰明地將場景和遊玩掛勾，當主角處於安全而隱閉的地方，整個畫面將會變成黑白，取代了之前的紅綠燈設計，讓玩家更直感的去行事。

在動作方面，製作人可謂去蕪存菁，以《Conviction》為系列來個大革新。將以往複雜的操作和繁多的工具盡量簡化，可操控的動作亦大幅削減。基本上玩家只須知道跑、蹲下、翻滾、掩護等幾個動作已經夠應付遊戲，爽快度十足。雖然《Conviction》明顯傾向動作射擊的層面，但仍保留著自家獨有的特色，遊戲並不是製造鎗林彈雨的場面，也不鼓勵大家衝鋒陷陣。而傾向躲在暗處以滅聲手鎗逐一爆頭，一鎗殺一人的乾淨俐落，更顯主角的專業。可惜遊戲提供的鎗械選擇並不算多，武器升級和改裝亦略嫌單調，但至少並不是致命的缺點，現在這種玩法亦不需用到太多的武器。

新引進的Execution系統和亦是本作的亮點，只要成功偷襲敵人一次就可以開啟，按住一個按鈕就可操控主角做出流麗的動作解決敵人。這是輕度玩家的福音，也令遊戲節奏明快。大概製作人也知道這個系統多麼過癮，所以其中一部份特別安排無限Execution，讓玩家可以不用顧慮地前行殺敵，就像一部電影的長鏡頭。除了大搖大擺地殺人，《Splinter》系列難能可貴的地方，就是為「潛行」這兩個字附予新的意義。上一集主角以臥底身份滲透一個犯罪組織，玩家須要在不同的地方一邊和罪犯工作一邊要背著他們搜集資料，比以往純粹無聲無息的潛入一個地方更有趣。今集引進的Last Known Position系統再次潛行變得更多樣化，玩家可以大玩貓捉老鼠的遊戲，戰略性地故意讓敵人看到，再立即消失於黑暗之中，引誘敵人接近他以為你身處的位置，再無聲無息的從另一方偷襲。

比起精彩的動作，《Conviction》幾段需審問遊戲就明顯失色。所謂的審問其實只以公式化地按下毆打指令，對方就會自然地將消息和盤托出。起碼也應該像《The Godfather: the Game》般，讓玩家好好拿捏，既恐嚇到對方又不致於將對方打至不能說話，現在這種處理就顯得有點尷尬。

或者要保持明快的節奏，《Conviction》主線故事的遊戲時間不算太長，感覺像看了一部荷里活A級動作片一樣（遊玩期間我不斷想起《救參72小時／Taken》），在這個動輒二十多三十小時遊戲時間的世代或者略有不足。可以《Conviction》的爽快度是近年少有，而且有不低的重玩價值，還附有連線合作模式，所以還可以接受吧。
